CRN Launches New Tool To Help Industry Monitor, Analyze and Learn From Violations

—New Database of FDA Warning Letters Also Helps Consumers Avoid Adulterated Products Masquerading as Supplements—

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the leading trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry, today announced a free online tool that compiles FDA Warning Letters sent to dietary supplement companies into a searchable database to help industry achieve better regulatory compliance. The database can be used to evaluate FDA’s warning letter allegations of good manufacturing practices (GMPs) violations, products making impermissible claims, and products tainted with illegal ingredients.

Washington, D.C., August 19, 2014—Advertising claims for weight loss supplement products feed the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) with the highest settlement costs within the dietary supplement and functional food category, according to a new web-based, members-only tool from the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN), the dietary supplement industry’s leading trade association. The new online tool is a compilation of all available FTC advertising enforcement actions related to dietary supplements and functional foods since 2003, and will be updated quarterly.

CRN-I Publishes Symposium Report on Bioactives

The Council for Responsible Nutrition-International (CRN-I), the international branch of the Council for Responsible Nutrition, announced that the conference report from its fourth scientific symposium, held on Nov. 1, 2013 in Kronberg, Germany, has been published in the peer-reviewed, scientific journal, European Journal of Nutrition.

The 2013 symposium, ” Bioactives: Qualitative Nutrient Values for Life-stage Groups,” looked at why it is important to have a process for bioactives similar to that of traditional nutrient that have dietary reference intake (DRI) values.
